Brace yourselves.

A little over a year after the saga over Garth Brooks’ cancelled Croke Park gigs brought the nation to a standstill, the famous country singer is set to come and visit us next week.

Up to 500,000 people were left heartbroken last summer when five concerts at GAA HQ were cancelled, despite the fact that the Taoiseach and the Mexican ambassador to Ireland tried to intervene at one point.

Despite the furore over Garth’s no-show, there wouldn’t be too many hard feelings towards the country and western legend in these parts, which is why there is likely to be much excitement about reports he could pay us a visit next week.

The Irish Mirror quote industry sources who say there’s a good chance Garth could be on his way to Dublin to catch a showing of ‘Are You There, Garth? It’s Me, Margaret’ a show about the infamous concert saga that has just started a fortnight’s run at Dublin’s Gaeity Theatre.

The show’s creator, Darren Smith, is quoted in the Irish Mirror as saying: “He knows about the show and we have been told he’s very interested and wants to come and see it.

“I wouldn’t be stunned at all if we had a special visitor in a Stetson next week.

“Aside from the genuine interest he has, it would be a great PR move by him after what happened.

“It would warm the hearts and minds of Irish people to see Garth in the audience.”

Smith reckons that if Brooks does come, it is likely to be either next Tuesday or Thursday, so if you spot a lot of stetson hats, check shirts and denim jeans around St. Stephen’s Green on those days next week, don’t be surprised.

Party on Garth.
