Hozier performs ‘Fairytale of New York’ during SNL finale

Joseph Loftus

‘I could’ve been someone’

Last night Hozier performed a fantastic rendition of The Pogues’ 1987 classic, Fairytale of New York, to bring an end to SNL’s 2024 season.

Hozier’s version of the song, which was originally recorded by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, was performed just days after the 24th anniversary of Kirsty MacColl’s tragic death, and days before what would’ve been MacGowan’s 67th birthday on Christmas day.

What made Hozier’s version of the Christmas classic even more poignant was the fact that it was played in New York City so close to Christmas itself.

Hozier was the musical guest on the show as Martin Short took over hosting. The episode had a number of special guests including Paul Rudd, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, and Melissa McCarthy.

Emma Stone was also present who gave Hozier a hug during the show’s climax.

Hozier also performed his huge hit, Too Sweet, during the show.
