The festival returns to Tullamore once again this weekend and JOE has decided to take a look at some of the acts that we think you should check out.

Sleep Thieves

The Dublin trio have a late-night drifting away feel to their synth driven dark disco beats. Imagine Kavinsky from the Drive soundtrack but with a more ethereal voice in singer Sorcha Brennan.

Mr Whippy Soundsystem

A DJ in an ice cream van. We don’t have to say anything else.

Elaine Mai

Mai is probably more well known for her guest vocals on some of Le Galaxie’s tracks but her solo work has been equally impressive so far.

Since the release of her debut EP Dots there has been a noticeable shift in her live shows. While Mai retains her haunting and melodic voice, there is a new focus on beats and the dancefloor.

Her new EP Known/Unknown sees the talented singer/songwriter going in the electro-pop direction.

Codes

JOE are big fans of the Dublin band and their 2010 Choice Music Prize nominated album TreesDreamInAlgebra is definitely one to pick up.

Having seen them perform live we can safely say that they are definitely not to be missed. Their new material is great also.

Funeral Suits

The very definition of a fun up-beat band at a festival. If you like distorted guitars, blistering harmoniums pop, art rock and electronica then these are the band for you.

We highly recommend their album Lily of the Valley and this song remains one of JOE’s all time favourite Irish tunes.

Enemies

Like all the acts in this article, Enemies undoubtedly get our seal of approval. We have been listening to the post-rock Wicklow band since their 2010 debut feature album We’ve Been Talking.

Their latest album Embark, Embrace is even better and it’s filled with catchy riffs, dancing beats and hypnotic loops.

O Emperor

The Waterford band have already shared the stage with the likes of MGMT, Spoon and Villagers but if you haven’t seen them live before then Castlepalooza is definitely the place for you. Be nice to them also, they’re friends of JOE’s.

We Cut Corners

Ironically the two lads don’t cut corners when it comes to making short and catchy songs. The Dublin duo’s latest album ‘Think Nothing’ is superb and they’re not to be missed.

Sisters

The alt-rock Limerick band are currently based in London but will be bringing their energetic set to Tullamore. We like their 90’s noise-pop stylings where boy/girl harmonies overlap over catchy riffs. This is a belting track.

Tvvins

As members of already-productive bands, Conor Adams and Lar Kaye would want to have a very good reason for starting another project.

The Cast Of Cheers and Adebisi Shank have made some of the best Irish songs in recent years but don’t worry, Tvvins continues the duos impressive streak.

This tune has been constantly been played on a loop in JOE towers.

If you want an look at the stage times than take a look here. JOE will see you all there.
