“I was never ever in a million years going to be the other woman.”

Jessica Simpson has revealed that she once had a secret romance with a “massive movie star” who was already in a relationship.

Simpson recounts the experience in Movie Star: They Always Say They’re Single, a newly published “short and true story” from the singer.

As reported in CNN, the memoir begins in September 2001 after Simpson had spent the summer of that year apart from her first real boyfriend, singer Nick Lachey, saying of the time: “I still didn’t know how to be single.”

It was at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards afterparty, however, that Simpson claims she met the movie star, who she does not name but states she “grew up thinking was so hot”.

According to Simpson, who was 21 years old at the time, the mystery actor “eyeballed” her up and down as if he was “undressing” her with his eyes.

Yet, despite the female singer getting the movie star’s number, she never called him and wound up reuniting with Lachey, who she later married.

However, when the pair later divorced in 2006, Simpson says she met up with the mystery man at the Beverly Hills Hotel while he got ready for an awards show.

It was then they shared their first kiss.

“He texted me throughout the awards show,” Simpson writes.

“The event was so huge that it made me feel special that every beautiful woman in Hollywood was there and he wanted me.”

However, she adds: “In fact, there was one other beautiful woman in his life: his girlfriend.

“Shortly after, I saw a photo of Movie Star on a red carpet with her. I was never ever in a million years going to be the other woman.”

According to Simpson, the actor told her that he and his girlfriend had split and that they were only being photographed together to avoid news of the break-up becoming public.

She also writes that the actor invited her to travel to see him as he was filming.

However, the pair had to take separate cars to their hotel in which they had booked rooms on different floors.

Simpson also says that she was advised to use the fire escape to enter his room and that she eventually released the movie star was trying to “hide” her from his girlfriend.

She adds in the memoir that the two never had sex, that she ended the romance on her terms and that she wound up taking a memento to remember the actor.

“I needed a trophy for this achievement, so I took the pillowcase he slept on,” she explains.

“I didn’t care if it was creepy or if he had to pay for it… and it would send the message: this was fun, but now I have a memory of you.”
