JOE Editor Paddy McKenna announces he’s leaving 2fm this weekend

In great news, he's staying in this parish

Paddy McKenna announced today that he is leaving 2fm after five years presenting Weekenders with Ruth Scott.

Paddy, also known as ‘Der Kaiser’ around these parts in his role as editor of JOE.ie, is stepping aside from his radio slot in order to spend more time with his young family.

Dan Healy, the head of 2fm, said: “When I met Paddy for breakfast earlier this week there was as ever his usual warmth and big smile, but I sensed he had something on his mind.

“I expected that he was going to tell me that he could no longer play in the radio five aside lunchtime matches because of his commitments at JOE.ie.

“I was wrong.

“Paddy has brought the same drive , imagination and energy to JOE.ie that he brought to 2fm; however over the past number of months he has been working seven days a week.

“The results of his work are clearly evident both on JOE.ie and with his partnership with Ruth at the weekend on 2fm.

“I understand completely Paddy’s need to balance things particularly when you have a young family and so it is our loss that Paddy will finish broadcasting on 2fm.

“Paddy is a very talented man and I hope that we get the opportunity to work again with him on 2fm. On behalf of Jim and I, we thank him for all he has done for 2fm and wish him and his family all that is good.”
