JOE’s Song Of The Day #815 – Tebi Rex ‘I Never Got Off The Bus’

Dave Hanratty

A track purpose-built for a heatwave.

I mean, you have to get off the bus at some stage.

Otherwise you’re just loitering, and nobody wants that.

Emotionally, however, you can, indeed, remain on the bus for some time. Or a car. Or a train. Or a canoe. Etc…

For Maynooth-born hip hop unit Tebi Rex, it’s that first one.

‘I Never Got Off The Bus’ marks the third and final single from forthcoming debut album The Young Will Eat The Old, which lands later this year.

As ever, Max Zanga and Matt O prove energetic company – joined by Local Boy on this effort – as they bounce off contemporary pop tropes, putting their own spin on the modern-day sad banger.

“The message is simple – either you grow or let the past define you,” they say.

So it’s like that bit in The Dark Knight, only nobody gets their face burned up.

Sound.
