JOE’S 5 go-to gigs in Ireland this week (May 25 to June 1)

The best of the live music gigs across Ireland this week

Eric Lalor

The best of the live music gigs across Ireland this week.

Who: Little May
Date: Tuesday, May 26th.
Where: Voodoo, Belfast

Australian trio Little May have been tipped for superstardom by those in the know. Described as a darker version of HAIM, the Australian band’s self-titeld debut EP has caught the critics attention and they are a live act not to be missed.

Who: Jet Setter
Date: Thursday, May 28th.
Where: Roisin Dubh Galway

This Dublin four piece band were described by NME as “The pushy zeal of Smashing Pumpkins…like Graham Coxon at his late-90s best”.

Rich praise indeed, but anyone who appreciates a good guitar will appreciate Jet Setter. This looks like it could be a cracking gig in Galway.

Who: Ham Sandwich
Date: Friday, May 29th.
Where: Olympia Theatre, Dublin

One of our favourite Irish bands and currently riding on the crest of a wave since their new album, Stories from the Surface was launched recently.

Ham Sandwich are here, bigger than ever before and this gig in the magical Olympia on Friday promises to be very special indeed.

Who: Foo Fighters
Date: Saturday, May 30th.
Where: Slane Castle, Meath

The annual pilgrimage to Henry Mount Charles back garden happens this weekend and the object of our desire and focus is the unstoppable force that are Foo Fighters.

Dave Grohl and the boys will have a strong support line-up too in the form of Hozier, Ash, The Srypes and Kaiser Chiefs.

Who: Wu-Tang Clan
Date: Saturday, May 30th.
Where: Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin

The Forbidden Fruit Festival kicks off festival season in earnest this weekend and among the highlights of the weekend is the Saturday night headline performance by Hip-Hop legends, Wu-Tang Clan.

Regular visitors to our shores, the New York group very rarely do bad gigs. This will rock Dublin 8 and if you get a chance to go see them, don’t turn it down.
