JOE’s New Song of the Day #325: Rofi James – ‘Fool For Your Love’

Justine Stafford

A song with a difference…

Here at JOE, we always like to bring you a new song of the day, but this is one with a bit of a difference.

‘Fool for your Love’ is the latest single by Galway-based band Rofi James, which consists of Rónán Ó Flaithearta, Jamie Murray, Eoin Ó Conghaile and Cathal Leonard.

A smooth mix of pop and rock sounds, the song itself is incredibly catchy, but equally impressive is the music video which accompanies it.

The video is set in the refugee camps of Greece and tells the story of some of the 60,000 refugees stuck there at the moment.

Rofi James commissioned two young Irish film makers to create the video, Tommy Flavin and Kevin O’Regan, who are collectively known as The Reelists.

The band described the reason behind creating this video, saying “the single is about struggle and fighting for something you care about deeply, something these people are doing on a daily basis.”

The Reelists added to this stating, “the conditions they live in are awful and the video seeks to highlight the failure of the EU to demonstrate basic compassion for fellow humans in need.”

Made with, rather than about, refugees, this video serves as a platform for them to tell their stories in their own words; how they fled war, poverty and suffering, and the people and dreams they have lost.
