JOE’s Song Of The Day #595: Scally – ‘Get Ready For War’

Eric Lalor

Scally is ready, but are you?

Scally is the moniker attached to self-confessed ‘best frontman in the country’,  Ethan Scally. He’s yet another product from the conveyor belt of musical talent hailing from Mullingar. He writes and co-produces his own songs and has forged a bit of a reputation for his live performances.

He has been gaining notoriety for his on-stage antics with his penchant for balaclavas, megaphones, nakedness, whisky drinking and crowd surfing with many likening him to Anthony Kiedis and Iggy Pop. He has a backing band, the wonderfully named ‘The Dirty Rats’, a name James Cagney would be proud of.

‘Get Ready For War’ is the second single released by Scally and his songs have been credited for being rooted in working-class ideologies -unemployment, teenage pregnancies, drink and substance abuse and crime.

It’s a track full of attitude and verve where you can hear echoes of The Arctic Monkeys and Rage Against The Machine who both played an influential role in the stylings of Scally.

It’s no-frills rock ‘n’ roll and a tune which will leave you tapping your foot along to and before long you are nothing else but ready for war. The anti-establishment song is rooted in Karl Marx social class theory with a modern twist as it includes sound bites from Tupac and Donald Trump.

Could easily be one of those tunes that gets teams pumped before a big match. Eyes on the prize lads and let’s get stuck into them, let’s get ready for war!

The Mullingar man has out been on the road supporting The Strypes, The Minutes, Wolff, New Valley Wolves, Sub Motion, CrowBlackChicken and Mik Pyro.
