JOE’s Song Of The Day #608: Super Extra Bonus Party – ‘Purple Heart’

Super Extra Bonus Party are back with a serious bang.

Back in 2007, Super Extra Bonus Party seemingly had the world at their feet. They had just released their self-titled debut album and lo and behold, it was not only critically acclaimed, but it also went on to win the much coveted Choice Music Prize for Album of the Year. Life then took over and in 2010 the band went their separate ways. Friendship is what kept the members bound through the intervening seven years; through new bands solo acts, marriages, children, work, play - there was always something percolating. Finally, in late 2014, the decision was made to dust off the pilot costumes and take to the stages yet again, Rather than just trade on nostalgia, the band decided not to emerge until they had new music to present to the world. The band then returned in 2017 with 'Switzerland' and it was received joyously by the fans. This is the follow up single and in our opinion is an absolute belter of a tune. Get this in your ears immediately. The Irish electronic music scene is a healthy place right now, made even healthier by the return of these talented chaps. The lads are back on the road too and can be seen live at Upstairs at JRBs in Newbridge with Ships and Phare on Sat 16 June, and The Woodlands Stage at Body and Soul festival at on Sat 23 June 3.30am.
