JOE’s Song Of The Day #632: Skyfever ‘Sunny Days’

Eric Lalor

Skyfever

Skyfever pare it back and change the tone.

We’re well aware of Skyfever and their ability to rock the gaff with their air-guitar inducing riffs. The lads are back with a song which, as you can tell by the title, has a very summery vibe to it.

No complaints here seeing as we’ve had the summeriest summer of all summers this summer and it’s only fair that the music created reflects this vibe. You’ll not be shocked to know that this song has been influenced by the sun. It was written by guitarist Tyson Harding while on honeymoon in California.

Skyfever

Taken from their latest EP release, Rear View Mirror, this is a laid back, hazy song that evokes the Californian summer that inspired it. Skyfever stay true to their rock roots, though, with singer Luke Lang’s unmistakable vocals giving it that hard edge.

Tyson told us, “I wrote Sunny Days when I was on my honeymoon in California. We were driving down Highway 1 and we stopped at a small beach city called Carmel-by-the-Sea. We visited a little vintage guitar shop and I was drawn to this particular guitar: a 1956 Martin. I didn’t bring my own with me so I was aching to play something! I picked up the Martin and started playing – Sunny Days was written there and then. The melody and the lyrics just
came to me. Even now when I play it with Skyfever it brings back memories of those blissful days under the Californian sun.”
