JOE’s Song Of The Day #676: Ódú ‘Roots’

Ódú yourself a favour and get on board with this.

Ódú is the stage persona of Irish pop song-writer Sally Ó Dúnlaing. The Bray native has always been a self-proclaimed singer and songwriter of pop music and cites the likes of Marina and The Diamonds, Tove Lo and Susanne Sundfør as inspirations to her very approachable sound. Ódú 'Roots' is a really good pop song which kicks off like an ode to any '80s pop classic you care to name. There's a real hint of the Human League from the intro and that's a very good thing. It's not long before Ódú and her amazing voice grab your attention and all of a sudden you're singing along with the chorus. Speaking about the track, she told us: "This song is about a period in my life where I knew exactly what I needed to do achieve my goals but I was too afraid (and drinking a bit too much) to make them happen. "It seemed like I was cutting the legs out from under me every time a good opportunity came around and a sort of inertia took hold. I think everyone can relate to that fear of success and how it might change things." https://youtu.be/iwcdNSpsJnc Clip via O.D.U. - Topic Check out all of the November Songs of the Day Spotify Playlist.
