JOE’s Song Of The Day #746 – Royal Yellow ‘Aruba’

Eric Lalor

Royal Yellow

Only the second release from Royal Yellow.

Royal Yellow is the moniker of Dublin-based producer Mark O’Brien. He was once part of the band, Enemies, but has since gone solo. His debut single, ‘Hazeldeine’ was well received and this is the follow up to it.

There is clearly a hybrid of styles going on here with Royal Yellow. There is a lot to sink one’s teeth into, with a combination of tribal chants, swooping falsettos, bouncing flutes and orchestral strings all set against a tight soul-funk groove.

Royal Yellow

‘Aruba’ is the first co-production between Royal Yellow and experimental electronic producer SENU. The pair will be doing a live show together in Dublin on 15 March in the Grand Social.
