JOE’s Song Of The Day #601: Badhands – ‘Let Me In’

Eric Lalor

Badhands

Badhands wants you to let him in.

Badhands is the project of Dublin songwriter and musician Dan Fitzpatrick. Dan would be known for his previous work with The Mighty Stef and The Last Tycoons.

His recently completed debut album, ‘Predictable Boy’, began as a collaboration with producer and bass player Tom Cosgrave (The Minutes), then quickly evolved into a more expansive project with the enlistment of multi-instrumentalist Aoife Ruth, drummer Ken Mooney, and engineer Chris Barry.

The end result is a collection of vivid, textured songs that range in tone between dark and brooding to frantic and energetic, with moments of genuine euphoria weaved into the mix. The record is beautifully intimate but also has an accessibility that will quickly capture the imagination of the listener, echoing at times the likes of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Leonard Cohen and Arcade Fire.

We had featured his debut single, ‘Waves‘ last year and he has followed that up with a string of impressive live performances at The Workmans Club, a performance at the Whelans Ones to Watch Festival and a sold-out gig at Vicar Street supporting Michael McDonald.

The new single ‘Let Me In’ tells the tale of a late-night misadventure, where our protagonist finds himself locked out and wandering the streets in the early hours. The bluesy guitar and lush string arrangement give the song an ethereal and trippy atmosphere, building constantly in intensity to a pulsating finish.
