Justin Timberlake, Sting and John Legend confirmed to perform at this year’s Oscars

Rory Cashin

When it comes to the performers for the Best Original Song at each year’s Academy Awards, its usually a bit of a mixed bag.

For every Pharrell singing Happy or The Lonely Island singing Everything Is Awesome, you’re equally likely to get someone you’ve never heard of, singing a song you’ve never heard of (or ever hear again), and you’ll know it’s time for your toilet break.

That won’t be the case this year though, with the Academy announcing a very impressive all-star line-up to keep everyone entertained in between long speeches thanking God for everything good and blaming Trump for everything bad (call that an educated guess).

Justin Timberlake will be on hand to sing Can’t Stop The Feeling from the animated movie Trolls, while Sting will perform his track The Empty Chair from the documentary Jim: The James Foley Story.

John Legend will sing two tracks from La La Land, which he didn’t actually perform in the movie, but he’s probably a little better suited to the live performances than Ryan Gosling or Emma Stone, who’ll be nervous enough on the night anyway since they’re up for Best Actor and Actress, respectively.

Last but not least, a little bit of bad news. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson won’t be on hand to sing his song How Far I’ll Go from Moana, but the song’s composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (best known for his hit musical Hamilton) will take his place.

The Academy Awards will take place on Sunday 26 February, and in case you haven’t heard any or all of the songs in the Best Original Song catagorey, we’ve made this handy little playlist for you!
