Lap up the fine weather with five songs that will make you feel all summery

The sun is shining, people are smiling and you hear that one song that signifies once and for all that summer is here.

The sun is shining, people are smiling and you hear that one song that makes you feel all summery.

With the fine weather we are suddenly having right now, we felt summery all of a sudden and thought it was time to list five of our favourite songs that simply remind you of summer.

Songs that, when you close your eyes at any time of the year and listen to them, bring you back to summer at an instant, even when you’re only dreaming about it on a cold, wet, sh*tty day in the middle of January.

These songs should feature on most barbecue playlists this summer.

‘Since I Left You’ – The Avalanches

This piece of summery brilliance from Australian electronic music collective The Avalanches was released on this side of the world back in 2001. It still sounds as fresh and as uplifting now as it did back then.

It’s dripped in sunshine, so much so that you simply have to wear shades while listening to it.

‘Summertime’ – DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

This song does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s summertime wrapped up in a little groove-fused rap-along tune.

It’s impossible not to feel optimistic and full of sunshine after listening to this tune. One of the songs most likely to be played at a barbecue this summer.

‘I Get Around’ – The Beach Boys

One of the all-time classics. A song that screams summer. You cannot listen to this tune without wanting to stick on your flip-flops and smear yourself in sunblock. If summer was a country, this would be the national anthem.

‘Papua New Guinea’ – The Future Sound Of London

A lesser known track it might be, but it has to make the list for its sheer brilliance and ability to evoke Ibiza sunset memories. This is such a beautifully constructed techno/ambient tune.

It’s hard to believe that it was released way back in 1991 and still sounds so fresh and innovative.

‘Waterfall’ – The Stone Roses

One of the catchiest songs ever written, this song from Manchester’s finest is drenched in melody and sunshine vibes. It’s a song that even the cynics will be toe-tapping along to.
