Very sad news.

Ginger Baker, one of the influential drummers in music, has died aged 80.

Baker founded influential band Cream with Eric Clapton, creating worldwide fame and legacy that will live on long after his death.

The news was confirmed on his Facebook page, with a statement reporting that he died peacefully earlier this morning.

The message reads: “We are very sad to say that Ginger has passed away peacefully this morning. Thank you to everyone for your kind words to us all over the past weeks.”

The family had announced last month that the London-born drummer was critically ill in hospital, adding that he was “holding his own”.

His daughter Nettie Baker said her father died peacefully and without pain.
