Lewis Capaldi break

“This has been the most difficult decision of my life.”

Lewis Capaldi has announced that he is taking an indefinite break from touring following his headline set at Glastonbury last weekend.

In a statement, the Scottish singer said that deciding to take a step back from live shows has been “the most difficult decision of my life.”

“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know that I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the forseeable future,” said the singer.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourrette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

Lewis Capaldi grateful for support during health struggles.

The 26-year-old ended his Glastonbury set early as he lost his voice and was visibly affected by tics on Saturday evening. The crowd, however, happily helped the performer in an “absolutely incredible moment”.

In September last year, Capaldi announced that he has Tourette’s syndrome and has struggled with anxiety.

In his statement, Capaldi thanked his friends, family and medical staff for supporting him “when I’ve needed it more than ever” and apologised to fans as he cancelled the rest of his shows for the year.

“Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.”

Last month, Capaldi pulled out of a charity gig in Dublin’s Olympia due to illness. He made a generous donation of £50,000 to the ISPCC, which helps raise funds for vulnerable youth in Ireland, as the gig was postponed.
