Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars are being sued over ‘Uptown Funk’ yet again

Dave Hanratty

Yet another lawsuit incoming for the chart-conquering pair.

You might think that you’d heard the last of ‘Uptown Funk’, but no.

The infectious, relentless groove-filled union of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars is still making quite the racket as 2017 draws to a close, just not the kind that’ll please the duo all that much.

TMZ reports that pioneering female hip hop trio The Sequence are requesting a jury trial and an unspecified amount of money from both Mars and Ronson – who is listed as one of the track’s several songwriters – because they believe the song is too similar to their 1979 hit ‘Funk You Up.’

And here’s that 2014 Ronson/Mars smash for that always enjoyable side-by-side comparison:

This is just the latest in a string of lawsuits generated by the song, with the most recent one coming in September after Lastrada Entertainment claimed that ‘Uptown Funk’ was “a clear copy” of funk outfit Zapp’s 1980 hit ‘More Bounce to the Ounce.’

As for the newest development, is there a case?

We’re gonna make a bold call and go with… maybe.
