Tragic news.

Mark Sheehan, the lead guitarist for the Irish pop rock band The Script, has died at the age of 46.

The group confirmed the news of Sheehan’s passing in a statement to their social media accounts which read:

“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness.

“The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”

Sheehan and The Script’s lead vocalist and keyboardist Danny O’Donoghue were friends since they were children growing up in Dublin and were formerly members of the boy band Mytown.

However, after Mytown split up, the duo linked up with drummer Glen Power to form The Script in 2001 and released their debut self-titled LP in 2008.

The Script’s hit singles include ‘We Cry’, ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’, ‘Breakeven’, ‘For the First Time’, ‘Hall of Fame’ and ‘Superheroes’. They have released six albums to date, as well as a greatest hits record.
