Maroon 5 look set to play the Superbowl halftime show

Maroon 5

A great achievement for the band.

It looks like Maroon 5 are going to be playing the iconic Superbowl halftime show at next year’s event.

Variety are reporting that Adam Levine and co. will be the ones to perform at what could is always one of the most watched sporting events of the year.

In the past Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, U2, The Who, Katy Perry and Janet Jackson have all taken part in the show.

The Superbowl will see the two teams who qualify from the play-offs face each other in one game to determine the winner of the NFL.

If you’re not familiar with Maroon 5, you may remember them from the World Cup this summer, where their cover of ‘Three Little Birds’ appeared to be played at every single ad break between games.

Last year’s performance gathered a great deal of controversy, as Justin Timberlake included a hologram of the recently deceased Prince in his show.

Those close to Prince claim that he never would have wanted it to happen.

Controversy surrounds the NFL now more than ever, following Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the national anthem before the games.

Jay-Z claims that he was asked to play the halftime show, but reckons that the NFL need him a lot more than he needs them.

Next year’s Superbowl will take place on Sunday 3 February.
