Real recognises real.
Two icons, one birthday.
It takes a lot for anyone other than Michael Bublé to steal the show at a Michael Bublé concert, but trust Marty Whelan to get it done.
It’s long been said that there ain’t no party like a Marty party, and it appears that the uber-popular Canadian crooner took note of this before showtime.
On Friday night, Bublé took to the stage for his second 3Arena gig in as many days, and made a point of honouring an Irish institution.
Whelan, quietly celebrating his 63rd birthday not long after interviewing Bublé on his RTÉ Lyric FM show, was surprised as the singer left the stage to present him with a fitting tribute.
Bublé picked Whelan out of the crowd and led a huge chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ to the beloved broadcaster, bringing along a cake for good measure.
Sharing the video on Twitter, Whelan noted his shock at what went down.
“I’m rarely speechless, but this kindness from Michael Bublé blew me away,” he noted.
Check out the celebrations below.
