JOE’s Song Of The Day #839 – Moncrieff ‘Like I Do’

Dave Hanratty

Moncrieff Song Of The Day

Soulful, hurt vibes aplenty.

There’s a lot of ‘next big thing’ talk around Moncrieff, with the word on the street being that the Waterford man is set to take the pop world by storm.

Having enjoyed attention from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, Beats 1 and clocking up a 13-week stint on the European Border Breakers chart, the most prestigious honour can now be bestowed – JOE’s Song Of The Day.

So, it better be a good one, right?

Luckily enough, ‘Like I Do’ is indeed a stomp, setting the scene nicely for forthcoming EP The Early Hurts, which arrives later this year.

What’s more, it’s that classic musical staple; a break-up song with heart, soul and punch.

“It always feels promising and a relief to have that moment of clarity about love,” notes the track’s author.

“‘Like I Do’ is turning up at your ex’s door far too late and trying to win them back out of the hands of their new lover.

“Sometimes, break-up songs have a habit of being told with images and metaphors to help round off the edges and soften the blow a bit for the other person, but most of the time in real life it doesn’t work this way.”

True, that. As such, the song mixes bitterness with bittersweet, holding little back while trying to move forward.
