NASA have named a comet after David Bowie

Tony Cuddihy

Of course they have.

Born in Brixton, made in Outer Space, it makes sense that NASA should name an asteroid after the late David Bowie.

Bowie’s death at the age of 69 was announced early on Monday morning, and the world’s most celestial rockstar has immediately had a comet named in his honour.

‘342843 Davidbowie’ was discovered in December 2008 in Calar Alto, Spain.

The NASA website gives a sober description of the man behind the comet, stating: David Bowie (David Robert Jones, b. 1947) is a British musician, singer, producer and actor. He started his career in the 1960s and became widely known in the early 1970s. One of the most influential artists, he has released more than 25 albums and has stared (sic) in several movies like “Labyrinth” and “Prestige”.
