Tipperary singer becomes first artist to feature an Irish-language song on a FIFA soundtrack

The Nenagh native has just gone and made history.

The Nenagh native has just gone and made history.

Outsider (aka Seán Corcoran) has got his track ‘Míol Mór Mara’ on the soundtrack for FIFA 18, featuring alongside the likes of Lorde, The xx, The National and Run The Jewels.

As the track is recorded and sung in both English and Irish, this makes it the first song to appear as Gaeilge in the history of the soundtracks for the immensely popular video games series.

Sean told his local news outlet Nenagh Guardian: “The song is about a child with Down Syndrome I worked with when I was suffering from huge heartbreak, and it had a profound influence on my life.”

“The kid was so inspiring and pulled me out of a dark place really just by spending time with him. It’s got a lot of Biblical references to Jonah and the Whale, which is symbolic of diving into the sea of the unknown and becoming something far greater than yourself in a spiritual sense.”

Outsider was recently signed to Warner Music, so keep an eye out for an Irish tour in the not too distant future.

You can check out the full soundtrack below, and the game itself will be released this Friday, 29 September.
