Philomena Lynott

Very sad news.

Philomena Lynott, the mother of beloved Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott, has passed away at the age of 88.

The sad news was confirmed on Wednesday morning by Hot Press, with whom Lynott collaborated on her life story, My Boy, a two-time number one bestseller.

Lynott had been battling cancer in recent years and was described as “a formidable and brilliant woman” by Hot Press editor Niall Stokes, who said it “was a joy to work with her” on My Boy.

Philomena Lynott was heavily involved in a campaign to have a life-size statue of her son erected in Dublin, which has been situated – barring a few temporary disappearances – on Harry Street in Dublin, outside Bruxelles pub, since 2005.
