Keith Flint "took his own life", says The Prodigy's Liam Howlett in Instagram post

"A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed."

The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett said that his friend and bandmate Keith Flint "took his own life" in an Instagram post on Monday morning.

Since the news of Flint's death at the age of 49 emerged on Monday, the band released statements via their Twitter and Instagram pages.

"It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time," the band said on Twitter.

In a post on the band’s official Instagram account, Howlett wrote: ‘The news is true , I can’t believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend."

The singer was found by Essex police, who were called to perform a welfare check at his home in Essex on Monday morning.

After discovering his body, an Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at just after 8.10am on Monday. We attended and, sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
