It has now been reported that the singer, who had massive hits with songs like 'Ignition' and 'I Believe I Can Fly', spent a night in jail as he couldn't afford to make bail.

According to Chicago Sun-Times, Kelly’s defense attorney, Steven Greenberg, said the singer’s finances were “a mess” and his income strangled after his record label dropped him.

Greenberg said he expected Kelly to have the cash to bond out of jail before his next court appearance on Monday.

Greenberg also clarified that the Chicago star was not a flight risk, saying: "In fact, Mr. Kelly doesn’t like — contrary to the song, he doesn’t like to fly."

There is speculation that Kelly's finances have been mismanaged throughout his entire career, with many reports suggesting that he never owned the rights to massive hits like 'I Believe I Can Fly'.

On Friday night, Cook County State's Attorney's Kim Foxx announced that 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse were made against the 52-year-old singer.
