REACTION: U2 fans express their disappointment after Croke Park tickets sell out in no time

Conor Heneghan

Despite their best attempts online this morning, U2 fans still haven’t found what they’re looking for.

When it was confirmed earlier this month that U2 would be taking the Joshua Tree Tour to Croke Park on July 22, it was inevitable that demand would be sky-high for arguably the most anticipated gig of 2017.

As expected, thousands upon thousands of fans took to Ticketmaster this morning in an attempt to secure tickets and, as is always the case, there was a lot of disappointment when general sale tickets sold out in a matter of minutes.

It’s worth noting that, at the time of writing (10:15am), fans could still purchase VIP Travel Package Experience tickets on the Ticketmaster website, but you’d need to cough up. Including a night in a single room in a four-star hotel, a single ticket in that category will set you back a cool €1,125.

It is often the case that when big gigs like this sell out so quickly that a further date or further dates are quickly announced in an effort to appease the fans.

U2 do have five days free following their July 18 gig in Barcelona and prior to a July 25 date in Paris and there is also room in Croke Park’s schedule (three concerts are allowed at GAA HQ each year in accordance with an agreement with Croke Park residents), so there is a possibility it could happen.

Until then, however, fans who missed out will have to stew in their disappointment for another while yet.
