Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, and Tip “T.I.” Harris will be the judges on the new show.

Shows like The X-Factor, America’s Got Talent, and The Voice are all hugely popular and at times very entertaining, but they can sometimes be skewed towards a particular type of talent.

Usually they can belt out an epic piano ballad, or they might be handy with an acoustic guitar, but by-and-large, all of the winners have fit under the genre of “pop”. As much as Simon Cowell or will.i.am or whomever the judge might be state they are looking for something new and different, more often than not, we get something that is pretty much exactly the same as something that has come before.

Looking to switch that up entirely is Rhythm + Flow, a new show on Netflix that is looking specifically for the freshest new talent in the world of hip-hop and rap, and it helps that the streaming service’s first foray into the music competition genre has big names like Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, and T.I. attached.

Ten episodes will be released over three weeks, with the first four focusing on the open auditions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta.

The next week, three more episodes will focus on rap battles and music videos, while the final week’s three episodes will be all about covering samples, working on collaborations, and performing in the finale.

The first batch of episodes of Rhythm + Flow is set to drop on Netflix on Wednesday 9 October.
