RTÉ Gold to dedicate a whole day to the music of Bruce Springsteen

Paul Moore

Bruce Springsteen

Non-stop tunes by The Boss. Heaven.

This is radio nowhere, is there anybody alive out there?

Any self-respecting fan of Bruce Springsteen will instantly know that lyric from the brilliant ‘Radio Nowhere’, which featured on Springsteen’s album Magic, but it’s also an apt description for anyone who thinks there isn’t enough of The Boss on the airwaves.

If you’re of this mindset, RTÉ Gold have just the thing because they’ll be playing non-stop Springsteen tracks on Monday.

Why Monday?

Well, the great man will be turning 70 years old (yes, 70 – like a fine wine, he gets better with age) and the station are doing their very best to get you through the badlands of the working day.

As part of the festivities, they’re looking for the nation’s favourite Springsteen song and fans’ favourite memories of seeing The Boss play live.

As well as that, RTÉ Gold will count down the top 10 Springsteen chart and much more.

Gold Breakfast with Will Leahy will kick off the celebration with a special hour of Springsteen favourites between 8am and 9am, with Will catching up with a few listeners who have great memories of seeing Bruce live in concert over the years.

From 10am on Daytime Gold, Pat O’Mahony is filling in for Rick O’Shea and has the exciting task of counting down the top 10 Springsteen songs of all time, as decided by the listeners of RTÉ Gold. He’ll also be reading out text messages and emails from listeners, getting their reaction to the top 10.

The celebration doesn’t stop there, as because between 2pm and 7pm, RTÉ Gold will be featuring many more of Bruce Springteen’s best songs that didn’t quite make it into the top 10 but are particular favourites of his passionate fans.

All in all, things are pretty straight forward.

Message keeps getting clearer
Radio’s on and I’m moving ’round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face

We know what we’ll be tuned into on Monday and you can listen to RTÉ Gold here.
