The setlist for U2’s Vancouver gig hints at what Irish fans can expect at Croke Park this summer

Including The Joshua Tree album in full and loads more besides.

U2 kicked off The Joshua Tree world tour in Vancouver on Friday night, which will only serve to remind fans that there are a little over two months to go until they perform to a sold-out Croke Park on July 22.

The tour marks 30 years since the release of arguably the band’s greatest ever album and 30 years since two memorable gigs in Croke Park in June 1987; no doubt there will be more than a few people who witnessed either of those gigs reliving them all over again at GAA HQ in July.

As it’s an anniversary tour, Bono and company will be playing the Joshua Tree album in full at every one of their gigs and last night, in Vancouver, they followed the track listing to the letter, starting out with ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’ and ending The Joshua Tree section of the gig with ‘Mothers of the Disappeared’.

According to the Vancouver setlist, via u2gigs.com, there was plenty for fans to enjoy before and after the band performed The Joshua Tree, with ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ kicking off the gig and ‘Beautiful Day’, ‘One’ and ‘Elevation included in a six-song encore.

The final song, meanwhile, ‘The Little Things That Give You Away’, is as yet unreleased and is due to appear on the band’s forthcoming album, Songs of Experience, due for release later this year.
