Her promoters have released a statement.

Aside from cheering on her husband Gerard Pique during the World Cup, popstar Shakira has been busy performing her El Dorado World Tour.

As with ever tour, the singer has a variety of merchandise on offer for her fans to buy but one item has caused a little bit of controversy.

As you can see below, this particular ‘sun symbol’ necklace does resemble the ‘Black Sun’ symbol that was used by the Nazis.

German publication Bento were the first outlet to notice the similarities and since this came to their attention, concert promoters Live Nation have apologised for the accidental similarity.

Despite this slight error, it should be noted that the Colombian singer-songwriter is one of the most dedicated, thoughtful and charitable singers in the world.

At the age of 18, Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation which currently provides education and nutrition to over six thousand impoverished children in Colombia. She has also launched similar projects in Haiti and South Africa.

In 2006, the Hips Don’t Lie singer also founded another charitable organisation, ALAS. She has also donated 10,000 pairs of shoes to impoverished children in her hometown of Barranquilla.

Aside from this, Shakira is also an extremely active UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. All in all, a good egg.

Anyways, here’s a look at the controversial necklace that “some fans have expressed concern that the design bears an unintentional resemblance to Neo-Nazi imagery.”
