She confirmed the news via Twitter.

Singer Sinead O’Connor has announced that she has converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada Davitt.

This isn’t the first time that the 51-year-old has legally changed her name as she also revealed that she legally changed her name to Magda Davitt last year.

The singer announced the news by posting a recent image of herself wearing a hijab.

Davitt shared several images of herself in hijab, describing her conversion as a “natural conclusion” of religious study.

“This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada,” she said.

In 1999, the Nothing Compares 2 U singer was ordained a priest by Bishop Michael Cox of the Catholic Latin Tridentine Church in Lourdes. At the time, she was renamed Mother Bernadette Mary.
