Singer Tom Petty has died at the age of 66

He passed away on Monday night.

Rocker Tom Petty has passed away at the age of 66 according to his manager Tony Dimitriades.

“We are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty,” Dimitriades said on behalf of the family.

“He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8.40pm PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”

Famous songs such as Free Falling, I Won’t Back Down and American Girl saw Petty’s band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

His band have been on the road since 1976 and continued to perform. Their last gig was last Monday where they played three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl to conclude their 40th-anniversary tour.
