Over 500 free music events this year, and bands like Manic Street Preachers and the Original Rude Boys.

For the fifth annual ‘Guinness Holiday’, this year taking place on September 26, a pretty decent line-up has just been announced.

Emilé Sande, Bobby Womack, The Script, Manic Street Preachers, Bouts, James Vincent McMorrow and the Original Rude Boys will all play somewhere in the country, with lots more names set to be announced later.

There will also be five ticketed gigs in Dublin, Belfast, Limerick and Cork, with tickets costing €10. They go on sale from September 4 but the identities of the acts playing at those remain secret for now.

It is easy to be cynical about this very manufactured ‘holiday’ but almost every year it guarantees lots of quality live music all around the country for free. That simply can’t be bad.
