JOE’s Song Of The Day #854 – A. Smyth ‘Hero’

Dave Hanratty

Song Of The Day A Smyth

When a ‘Hero’ comes along…

Formerly of synth-powered indie hopefuls VANN Music, A. Smyth has been carving out his own solo singer-songwriter path over the last year-and-a-half.

It’s been a fruitful road thus far for the Dublin native, armed with a collection of impressive singles and slowly putting together a band of his own along the way.

Finally, a debut album is on the horizon. The first cut, ‘Hero’, calls the late Elliot Smith to mind, which is no bad thing in our book.

“‘Hero’ is about the way the world is working against itself at the moment,” offers A. Smyth.

“All this crazy behaviour we’re seeing, the disconnection from one another. Underneath it all, it’s just people grasping for the things that we all want – safety, security, answers. The madness being, of course, that this behaviour is causing the opposite.”

You can check the track out below, and if you like what you hear and happen to be in Galway on Thursday 5 December, you can catch the man in action upstairs at the Róisín Dubh.
