An authentic and heartfelt Dublin story.
If you’re unfamiliar with Dublin rapper FYNCH, it’s time to change that.
The 23-year-old is surfing the crest of a wave at the moment, having just released new EP Bookies Pens & Loose Ends last weekend.
The five-track effort tells relatable stories peppered with issues like self-confidence, self-doubt and post-academic angst in an ever-changing, often pressure-filled Ireland.
Like many a homegrown artist in 2019, FYNCH is clearly informed by the world around him, asking difficult questions at a still-formative and highly uncertain time.
“The EP was written in a period at the beginning of 2019, in the midst of another spell of retail work in order to make ends meet,” he notes.
“Now, I’m in a happier place than I was when writing it. My work situation has changed, meaning that I’m actually utilising my degree. That being said, making a living from my music wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.”
True, that.
