Toto played Dublin and performed an epic version of ‘Africa’ with hundreds of Irish fans

Kate Demolder

Toto took to the stage of Vicar Street on Thursday night to bring the people of Ireland a gig they will never forget.

The orchestrators of arguably one of the most-recognised songs in the world graced Dublin with their presence on Thursday night and took to the stage of Vicar Street as part of their 40 Trips Around The Sun Tour.

Originally planning on playing Dublin for just one evening, the band added an extra date due to popular demand and took to the stage for two sold-out gigs.

All who sojourned to the Dublin 8 venue this week were, naturally enough, keen to hear the band’s most well-known song, but little did they know that the musicians would whip out an incredible 11-minute version of the number one hit.

And the crowd went wild…

The gigs were part of the tour to promote the iconic band’s brand new Greatest Hits package.

Core Toto members Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams re-entered the studio this past year to work on the album, which will also feature previously unreleased music along side newly remastered classic tracks worked on by Elliot Scheiner & Gavin Lurssen and his team.

Saturday sees the band hit the Waterfront arena in Belfast, the penultimate gig before they finally finish up in Glasgow on 8 April.

And sure listen, while you’re here, you might as well listen to this on repeat…
