VIDEO: Guns N’ Roses covered ‘Black Hole Sun’ in memory of the late Chris Cornell at Slane

Needless to say, it was incredible.

Anyone who woke up on Saturday to see torrential rain could have been forgiven for dreading a complete washout at Slane, where the Guns N’ Roses were set to perform to 80,000 fans.

The band have never been far from controversy but any worries that they wouldn’t show up or that they wouldn’t be at their best were quickly disspelled.

They were incredible.

“This was a show of clarity and energy where Axl Rose’s epic whining vocals and Slash’s phenomenal guitar playing snapped back into focus,” wrote Una Mullally of The Irish Times. “Duff McKagan meanwhile was introduced as a fellow Irishman to the crowd, with a Prince love symbol on his guitar.”

One of the highlights of the night was the band’s cover of Soundgarden’s seminal ‘Black Hole Sun’, which the band have since published on their Facebook page with a message for the late Chris Cornell, who died recently at the age of just 52.
