The Third Marine Aircraft Wing recently had their yearly Birthday Ball concert where the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band stole the show with their mash-up of two Macklemore songs.
The guys and girls of the Third Marine Aircraft Wing recently sat down for a banquet dinner at the Marriot Marquis and Marina in San Diego for their annual Marine Birthday Ball and along with the fancy food they were treated to an epic performance by the core’s Band.
The tune is a mash-up between Macklemore’s ‘Thrift Shop’ and ‘Can’t Hold Us’, which the Marine’s have rewritten to better fit their military lifestyles. It’s absolutely brilliant.
Here’s a look at what the video’s uploader, apallyon7, had to say on YouTube: “So this is our 3rd year doing these knock-down/drag-out Birthday Ball concerts; first it was “Bohemian Rhapsody” then it was “Gangnam Style” and “Thunderstruck”, and now it’s “Thrift Shop” (which we rewrote the lyrics to and called “Cash Sales”) and “Can’t Hold Us.”
“If you’ve ever been in the military I’m sure you know what Cash Sales is so please listen to the lyrics, they’re pretty clever. SSgt Justin Lienemann did an awesome job rewriting the lyrics and SSgt Josh Lively did a great job putting the whole thing together. Here’s to 238 years of the Marine Corps doing things like no one else. Semper Fidelis!”
