WATCH: Imelda May’s performance on Jools’ Annual Hootenanny was just stunning

Conor Heneghan

Wow.

It’s no secret that it’s not a live recording, but Jools’ Annual Hootenanny is an annual highlight for people who prefer to spend New Year’s Eve on the couch in front of a TV rather than out on the town.

Every year, Jools secures some of the most prominent talents in the music business and in 2016, our own Imelda May featured alongside the likes of Chaka Khan, Christine and the Queens, Seasick Steve and more famous faces.

And boy, did she deliver some performance, with her version of ‘Black Tears’ alongside Jools & his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra wowing the assembled crowds and millions watching on television.

Imelda was sporting her new look having gotten rid of her distinctive blonde quiff in recent months, but this performance was all about the voice, which suited the song perfectly.

Stunning… and it got the praise it richly deserved.
