For many Irish music fans, the weekend gone by was all about U2's massive headliner in Croke Park. However, for myself and many other electronic music enthusiasts, it was all about a completely different music world. That 'world' I'm referring to is Belgian music festival, Tomorrowland.
I'm pretty sure many of you know exactly how massive this festival is, but for those of you who don't, it is THE biggest electronic music festival in the world! Some might compare it to Coachella in the US or Glastonbury in the UK. Tickets are certainly not easy to come by but I was very lucky to be teaming up with Mazda Ireland and JOE, who sent me out to see what all the hype and fuss was about!

I'm not going to lie, I've never been a hardcore electronic music fan, so prior to the weekend I never really had any intention of going. It wasn't long after arriving that I realised how much of an idiot I was. I'm going to cut to the chase here, it was without doubt the best music festival that I have ever been to and if I'm being totally honest, I feel like it's going to be hard for another festival to live up to the standards of Tomorrowland.

With a visit earlier in the day to the Mazda Belgium HQ, I had the chance to meet and chat to Belgian DJ Félix a.k.a. Lost Frequencies, famous for his hit song "Are You With Me." Soon after we were immersed into some Mazda activities where we had the chance to be driven around a custom track with a professional driver (David) in a Mazda MX-5.
Half way around the track I genuinely thought that my lunch was about to come up! We also had the chance to listen to the ridiculous Bose sound system that was inside this exceptional car. We obviously had to play some ridiculous tunes that would get us in the mood for Tomorrowland later in the day.

As soon as we had finished up at Mazda HQ Belgium, we made our way to the festival. As soon as we walked through the front entrance I was gobsmacked. The level of production around the entire place was outrageous. Usually at a concert you would expect the stage production to include a few fire works at the end of the show, not at Tomorrowland though. At the Mainstage it was either a burst of flames, smoke canons, lasers, lights or multiple fireworks going off in sync with the music. Luckily for all of the Mazda crew we got to watch each performance from the skybox that provided a bird's eye view of the entire festival and a perfect view of the Mainstage.
Another very different detail that I noticed was there was a Tomorrowland currency, so instead of carrying around cash that you could easily lose, you could top up your wristband with 'Pearls' that could then be used to pay for food, drink, merchandise or even a haircut! Yes that's correct, there is also a hair salon within Tomorrowland where you could book an appointment!

At one stage I broke away from the rest and explored the entire festival finding all sorts of small hidden stages. The attention to detail was immaculate, it almost had a Disney dream like feel in some areas. The evening finished with Alesso on the Mainstage and I made it my priority to savour every single moment because I felt as though this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. All I can say now is, if you haven't been yet, you HAVE to put it on your bucket list. This is coming from a someone who does not claim to be a major electronic music fan too!
