WATCH: Mullingar man’s very personal song about depression and anxiety is worth a listen

Colm Boohig

“I hate the fact that I’m only human.”

Every so often, JOE gets sent in material that encapsulates the feelings of many people all at once, and this song from Just Flynn falls right into that category.

‘Release’, written by the Westmeath native, tackles the issues of depression and anxiety, as explained by the man himself, when talking to JOE:

“I wrote the song about my experience with anxiety. I think we all feel crap from time to time and it’s important to let it out. I get my release through music I guess, so I wrote this song.

“I recorded this in Brighton, just before I came back to Ireland. With all the talk about depression and anxiety at the moment, I thought it might be worth sending it your way.”

Darren is spot on, after the extremely low turnout during the mental health discussion in the Dáil on Tuesday (April 26), followed by UCD students’ planned mental health protest outside of Dáil Éireann on Thursday (April 28).

As well as being topical, this is just a great tune. Have a look and a listen.
