“That would put the icing on the cake”
With Oasis confirming two dates in Croke Park next year, the question over who supports them is now on everyone’s lips.
One band is throwing their own name in the hat, with The Wolfe Tones openly saying they would love the gig.
The popular Irish rebel band have enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, bringing massive crowds to their Electric Picnic performances this year and last.
Lead singer Brian Warfield said a supporting slot for Oasis would “put the icing on the cake” for the band, who plan to retire soon.
The Wolfe Tones want to support Oasis at Croke Park
Speaking to RSVP Live, the Dub said: “The main ambition for the future is Croke Park with Oasis,” adding that there are no confirmed plans as of yet.
“We’ve already created an interest that we would love to do it. I guess it’s up to them and their management,” he added.
“People want to see Oasis and they might want to see The Wolfe Tones. They would want to see each of us doing our own thing.”
Warfield previously told The Sun that the Gallagher brothers would regularly show up at the Wolfe Tones’ Manchester gigs, before they formed Oasis.
“I remember them telling us, they were starting a band, it was only years later when I switched on the TV and saw them, I realised it was Oasis,” he told the publication.
Formed in 1964, The band announced that they will be retiring in October this year after headline gigs in Belfast and Dublin.
“I never thought that we would go on so long,” Tommy Byrne told the Irish Sun. “It’s been absolutely amazing, but I’m 80 [this year] and I think that would be a good time to stop.
“I brought this motion to Brian and Noel and they agreed. To go out on a high like this would be a great tribute to the band.”
However, the opportunity to support Oasis in their sold out Croke Park gigs seem to have put any retirement plans on hold if a slot comes to fruition.
