That’s roughly 512 times more than the overall population of Wicklow…

We think it’s fairly safe to say that Hozier is the breakout Irish artist of 2014, hell he’s probably the breakout global star for this year and it’s easy to see why.

His eponymous debut album went straight to number one in Ireland but a guest slot on Saturday Night Live has seen his career in the US move into the stratosphere.

When the album was released in the US, Hozier went straight to number 2 and the streaming figures since then have been absolutely staggering.

Speaking with The Independent, Hozier’s manager Caroline Downey revealed that the album has been streamed 70 million times last week alone.

If that didn’t blow your mind then his hit single, Take Me To Church, has been downloaded from iTunes 16 million times and been streamed 10 million times a week.

We knew he was popular but those figures took us by surprise.

We already brought you the news that the song was chosen to soundtrack the latest Beats by Dre ad and the Wicklow singer has just provided a new acoustic version of the track for Shazam.

Have a listen.
