Darts were forced out of service this morning by recession theft – someone stole lengths of the rail system’s overhead cable to sell for scrap metal.
Spokespersons for the rail line are saying the problem is due to “technical fault” but an insider at the Dart revealed that the lines had to be replaced because someone had pilfered several metres of it.
While the rail metal bandits were laughing all the way to the scrapyards, the shutdown is causing commuter turmoil this morning for those turning up at a number of Dart stations.
Stations between the Greystones and Dalkey have been suspended while engineers rush to replace the stolen wire.
Dart officials could not give any indication as to when the service would be resumed.
However, customers are being informed that Dublin Bus will honour all valid rail tickets.
You wouldn’t have got that during the Celtic Tiger days.
