We all know judges are not the most technologically up-to-date, but in a blow to their street cred one of the few that actually knows how to work Facebook has been told to get off it pronto!
Facebook has been saddened to learn that one of their members will be closing his page, never to return, after he was urged to get the hell off the site. Colm Mac Eochaidh is one of the most recent appointees to the High Court.
He posted an entry on his Facebook page yesterday that would hint that it will soon be no more. "Just to let you know I'm told I should close my FB page," the post read.
Mac Eochaidh is a big Fine Gaeler in addition to his penchant for some serious social networking. He ran twice for the party in Dáil and Seanad elections, but was neither successful in 2002 nor 2007.
According to the Irish Independent the Courts Service says it would be unusual for a judge to keep a public Facebook page once taking the bench. Surely it's more odd that a judge has one in the first place.
Mac Eochaidh, who's 49, even counted well-known journalists as friends on the site, so maybe he is better off closing his page for his own sake.
