The regular moon is pretty good so imagine how good the super moon is. You can see it this weekend so here’s all you need to know.
We’re not usually ones that are that big into astronomy and star gazing but when we heard about an impending super moon, we thought it had to be something cool. And it is.
Thanks to the less than perfect orbit of the moon around our fair planet, every so often it gets closer than normal. Tonight this event occurs. According to the experts at Astronomy Ireland, the moon will appear 16 per cent bigger than usual in tonight’s sky, and 30 per cent brighter.
Another consequence will be higher than normal tides so if you are heading out on boat, please be careful. But for the rest of us this is a great night to get the binoculars out and have a good look at the moon as close as it will get for a while.
Of course, you could just use the extra brightness to make your walk home from the pub a little easier. Whatever you prefer. All we need now is the clouds to go away.
It is also a full moon tonight, which, as we know, literally brings out the lunacy in people. Could be a fun night to be out and about we think.
