A number of people were hospitalised after a 'dangerous occurrence' at the Poolbeg Incinerator in Dublin. According to reports, 11 people were taken to hospital after an uncontrolled release of lime at around 6am on Thursday morning. Nine of those 11 have since been released, with two remaining under observation. The Journal quote a Covanta spokesperson as saying, “a small amount of lime was inadvertently released inside the flue gas treatment area” with "a number of workers in an adjacent area. As a precaution, eleven workers were sent to St Vincent’s Hospital nearby for medical evaluation. Two were detained overnight." Covanta is the company that runs the plant. They insist that no lime escaped the facility and the incident was completely contained within its four walls.
